Astonishing Origins
Several years ago, Father Chad Ripperger, PhD, SMD, cofounded a religious society of exorcists known as the Doloran Fathers.They spend the first half of the day in prayer before dedicating the rest of their time ministering to people who are possessed by evil spirits.
Here's Father Chad at a private retreat where he taught the Three Angelus devotion to our founder, Bud Macfarlane.
The Filtering System
He and his fellow exorcists are contacted by thousands who believe they might be experiencing some sort of demonic manifestation.
To manage the deluge of requests, the Doloran Fathers set up a unique filtering system. It consists of asking a series of clarifying questions and includes a "spiritual prescription" to pray the Angelus three times a day (at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm).
The Doloran Fathers document and analyze all their cases. They have shared their methodology and confirmed their results with exorcists all over the world.
Unmistakable patterns emerged from this huge sampling of people.
Thankfully, actual possession is rare. Roughly one out of a thousand cases involves physical possession by an evil spirit. Their filter identifies these people so they can get the assistance they desperately need from an exorcist.

For the 99.9% of the others—that's us—the Doloran Fathers observed a truly wonderful phenomenon. Namely, demonic influence on people who prayed the Angelus three times a day was stopped cold or severely mitigated almost immediately.
As Father Ripperger nonchalantly asserts, "It really cleans out the demons."
It gets better. Almost everyone who faithfully prayed the Three Angeluses was able to overcome deep-seated sin within months.
Some people were also delivered from chronic financial problems, mysterious untreatable illnesses, and mental disorders (which can indeed be caused by evil spirits in certain instances).

Why It Works
Father calls this practice an "elemental spiritual discipline." Elemental because it is simple. Spiritual because it is the application of a traditional prayer of the Church. Discipline, in this case, because it requires submitting to a rigid daily schedule.
This, of course, is in addition to frequent Confession to remain free from mortal sin and venial sin, attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, and living a life of daily meditative prayer.
To paraphrase Father Ripperger on one of his podcasts, "Who knew? Living a normal Catholic life gets rid of almost all demonic activity!"
Of course it does. Practice the Catholic faith. Undertake daily elemental spiritual discipline. The demons, in almost all cases, will leave you alone.

Decades of Struggle—Gone!
The first effect you will experience is a diminishment of your impulse to commit certain mortal and venial sins you may have struggled to overcome for years or decades.
That diablolical "push," which you may have misattributed as solely your own defect, will almost always disappear.
Simultaneously, your capacity to recognize circumstances that foster temptation will improve. These "near occasions of sin" will become much easier to avoid. Your disordered emotional reactions to temptation will diminish significantly or disappear altogether.

Advice for Beginners
You have prayed the Lord's Prayer all your life. Through the Three Angelus devotion, your heavenly Father is going honor your request to "deliver us from evil."
Prepare to be in awe. Your entire future is poised to improve dramatically.
During the first few days, some—but not all—people may experience an odd interior or external resistance. This is not uncommon in spiritual warfare, so remain steadfast.
You may fall back to sleep at 6 am before finishing the prayers—or your alarm may mysteriously fail to go off. You might be strangely distracted or interrupted in odd ways while praying this brief devotion.
If you neglect to offer an Angelus precisely on the hour by accident, or if it is otherwise impossible, simply pray or finish an Angelus as soon as you remember or are able.
Consider inviting a close friend, spouse, or loved one to join you. The Angelus has been both an individual and a group prayer for centuries. You can even pray it with friends during phone calls.
Whether you have to read the Angelus at first or already know it by heart, look forward to raising your heart to heaven multiple times a day!
And remember, you are never praying alone—hundreds of millions of Catholics worldwide are praying at noon in every time zone.
Can You Pray at Different Times?
We are often asked if it is sufficient to pray at hours other than 6 am, noon, and 6 pm.
Father Ripperger has made it clear that the 6/noon/6 times are non-negotiable because the discipline of humbly submitting to a rigid schedule that is not of your own making is crucial to why this devotion is so effective.

What is the Angelus?
Eight hundred years ago Franciscan friars began offering three Hail Marys when church bells were rung. The Angelus we recite today was first published in an official Catholic catechism in the year 1560.
Popes and saints promoted it, and until recently, Christian families, towns, and even entire countries offered it together publicly at the ringing of the noon bells.
Upon examination, the Angelus consists of three scripture quotes highlighting the incarnation of Jesus at the Annunciation, three Hail Marys, and a concluding prayer asking for the grace merited by His passion, death, and resurrection.
In other words, it echoes a full Rosary in a compressed form.
