The CatholiCity Message

Volume II, Number 28 – July 30, 1998

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

Whew! Sigh. Burb. Ahhh. Several items this week, plus a joke, a quote, and a new feature: Quick Apologetics.

1. TWO BEST FRIENDS IN HEAVEN
Response to last week's item about the Power of the Rosary was so encouraging we are inviting you to join us in two novenas devoted to two of our best friends in heaven. Let's pray together. We can all pray for each other's intentions. First, for the next 9 days, from July 31st through August 8th, print out and pray the following prayer to Saint Joseph (a prayer that has been used for many centuries):

"O Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, and so prompt before the throne of God, I place with you all my interests and desires. O Saint Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. O Saint Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you with Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. Saint Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me."

Don't you just love the image of Saint Joseph holding a sleeping Jesus in his arms?

THE SECOND NOVENA...
...is to CatholiCity's patron and model, Saint Maximilian Kolbe. His feast day is August 14th. Starting on August 5th, pray a daily Rosary and pray this simple prayer once during the day:

"Saint Maximilian, help me love Immaculate Mary."

2. VIEW WITH A ROOM Our crack staff has just installed a new feature which allows your friends to sign up for the CatholiCity Message right on the menu bar of our homepage:

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"It's not luck–it's skill."
Talented younger brother's refrain as he is beating his older brother over and over again in pool, backgammon, one-on-one basketball...

JOKE OF THE WEEK
The priest of a small country parish begins to paint his little white church. As he gets halfway done, he realizes that he doesn't have enough paint to finish the job, or enough money to buy more paint. So he adds a little paint thinner to the paint and continues. Then, a little while later, he adds more thinner. Then more thinner. Finally, he finishes, and steps back to admire his gleaming white church. Suddenly, a storm rolls over the hill, huge rain drops begin to fall, and a thunderstorm begins. To his horror, the thinned-out paint begins to wash away, revealing gray, ugly clapboards. Distraught, the priest goes into the church and kneels down, praying, "Lord, what am I to do?" A loud, deep voice from heaven responds:

"Repaint! Repaint! And THIN no more!"

QUICK APOLOGETICS FOR CONFESSION
Jesus breathed on them (the Apostles) and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any they are forgiven. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained." John 20:22-23 If it's been more than a few weeks since you've gone to Confession, try going this week. You will feel like you're losing weight.
