The CatholiCity Message

Volume IV, Number 16 – August 10, 2000

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

We're heading out for the Catholic Family Conference in Wichita, so we have to keep this short. We're as busy as beavers in our offices here in Cleveland, preparing for the big day: this coming Monday, 14 August, on the Feast of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, we're launching the third annual Catholicity Tax Drive and the exclusive world-premier release of our brand new free Rosary CD, so keep your eye on your in-box. Today, we want to tell you about Richard and Mary.

1. THE ROSARY FAMILY
Richard and Mary never had much in terms of worldly goods, but they did have the Faith and four lovely young children, including a newborn baby. So when Richard, a young man, suddenly fell ill and died in a matter of weeks, it was quite a blow to Mary and the children. During the last painful days of Richard's life, when he was too weak to pray the Rosary out loud, he listened to the Mary Foundation Rosary over and over again in his hospital bed. The voices soothed him. The graces flowed. He had a good death. Mary called us and told us the sorrowful news, then shocked us with what may be the most moving act of generosity in the history of our apostolate.

After a discussion with her children, Mary decided to donate a large portion of the insurance money to pay for the production of 30,000 Rosary tapes! "Are you sure?" we asked her. "This is what the children want," she replied, her voice filled with emotion. In honor of Richard, her children asked us to print the words "In Loving Memory of Daddy" on the cassettes, which of course we did. We distributed the tapes in a matter of months. Some of you may have listened to "the Daddy tapes." The very same recording which consoled Richard "in the hour of his death" is the recording on our new Rosary CD. In imitation of Christ, Richard's death and the generosity of a widow and four young children brought life to countless souls, and were, in a tangible way, a big part of our being able to bring this free Rosary CD to you on Monday. Please remember Mary and Richard and their generous children, holy apostles of the Rosary, the next time you pray one.

2. TEACH THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN
We don't know where we first heard this, but it's a Catholic tradition that if you fall asleep while praying the Rosary, your guardian angel will finish it for you (and in our case, probably do a much better job).

3. PRAYING WITH THE ARCHANGEL GABRIEL AND SAINT ELIZABETH
Won't you join me and over 22,000 CatholiCity Citizens in a most biblical prayer? "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen."

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
This is the intention one family offers during the fourth decade of their family Rosary, every night, when they pray for you:

"We offer this decade for all Catholic organizations, their leaders and workers, especially for the Mary Foundation, Saint Jude Media, and CatholiCity; may they be the first human cause in millions if not billions going to heaven; and for the spiritual and temporal needs of all our readers, listeners, benefactors, workers, suppliers, visitors, and friends, great and small, past-present-and-future, especially for those who have asked us to pray for them today. Dear Lord, continue to send us generous benefactors, and Your angels and grace from heaven, to guide, guard, govern, and protect our decisions, families, locations, workers, and projects. Amen."

Talk to you on Monday.

Yours in Christ,

Your Prayer Partners at CatholiCity
