The CatholiCity Message

Volume IV, Number 32 – December 21, 2000

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

On behalf of all our workers here, we wish you the warmest, holiest, and most blessed Christmas and New Year! This will be our final message of the year, and the next time we talk to you, it will truly be after crossing the threshold of hope into a new Millennium. We just posted a tremendous article by Dr. Mark Miravalle on our homepage called "Prayerful Hopes, Dangerous Deadlines," which deals with the question of how Catholics should respond to the closing of the Year 2000 in relation to the Marian prophetic references to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

We have just two items, including a prayer of thanks.

1. ON OUR PLATES
Our focus on praying for the election forced us to put a few things on the backburner. In the coming year, we'll have exciting information for you on a new Catholic college in Canada, a mutual fund company that invests based on Catholic principles, a Catholic marriage counseling apostolate, a new "mainstream" magazine for families started by dedicated Catholics, an initiative to bring Our Lady more consecrated souls in 2001, a new book–and that's just stuff that doesn't originate in CatholiCity. As for CatholiCity, we'll also have one more nine day online novena–this one to culminate on Inauguration Day. We've also establishing a brand-new CatholiCity News and Commentary component, Catholic Newswire, based on the success of our online postings during the past month, and all-new free audios from the Mary Foundation. Before we forget, if you've been meaning to make a last minute Christmas gift to CatholiCity or the Mary Foundation, you can do so online or via snailmail by going here:

2. HE CHANGED EVERYTHING
When Our Lord was born, He changed everything. Other more articulate writers have reflected upon the meaning and awesomeness of His birth, so humble, in a stable. Jesus still changes everything. We can't help but think that a good number of people reading our words today were not practicing Catholics ten years ago. Some of you practiced, but your faith was not the center of your life. Many of you were not even Catholic. Yet, here you are, today, in His one true Church. He has changed your life. And now you are changing the world with Him. So let us pray together, all 23,000 of us, thanking our King for being born into our lives...

"Dear Jesus, we thank you for everything. We thank you for our conversions. We thank you for our parents, our spouses, our children, our friends, our jobs, our talents, our parishes, our nation, our leaders, our homes. We thank you for giving us Your mother, Your Church, Your Truth–we thank you for everything! We thank you for answering our prayers. We thank you for bringing us together through CatholiCity.com. We promise to help you continue to change and sanctify the world in the coming Millennium. We especially ask you to change the hearts of our fallen-away relatives and friends during the upcoming year, and to guide our role in these conversions. Amen."

QUOTES OF THE WEEK
"More is accomplished in one day of prayer than a year of negotiation."
Father Gobbi

"Teach, O teach us, holy child,
By thy face so meek and mild,
Teach us to resemble thee,
In thy sweet humility.
Hail, thou ever-blessed morn,
Hail, redemption's happy dawn!
Sing through all Jerusalem:
Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Edward Caswall

"Christianity is more than a doctrine. It is Christ Himself."
Thomas Merton

SIGNS FOUND IN FRONT OF CHURCHES

-We hold sit-in demonstrations every Sunday.
-Will it take six strong pall-bearers to bring you to church?
-Where will you be sitting in eternity? Smoking or non-smoking?
-It is unlikely there'll be a reduction in the wages of sin.
-K-mart is not the only saving place.

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! From all of us...

With Immaculate Mary,

Your Friends at CatholiCity
