The CatholiCity Message

Volume V, Number 3 – February 15, 2001

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

For the last two weeks, we've been preparing for the new recording from the Mary Foundation, including this past weekend when Father Larry Richards, who blew so many people away last year with his "Confession" talk, recorded a special 3-part presentation on the Mass based on his superb "parish mission" on the same subject. We'll have more details within two weeks, when, as is our tradition, we "premier" this free audio to CatholiCity Citizens. It's called "The Mass Explained." We're very excited, to say the least. Let's get started:

1. THE MONTHLY HEROES
We want to publicly thank the Citizens who have been supporting us on a monthly basis with online and mail-in donations since our annual appeal last fall. You guys are keeping us going. Hang in there!

JOKE OF THE WEEK
Here are actual quotes from airline pilots and flight attendants:

Attendant: "Thank you for flying with us today. The next time you get the insane urge to go careening through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at U.S. Airways."

Pilot: "We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight."

Attendant after a Rough Landing: "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash has brought the aircraft to a screeching halt, and, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal."

2. FROM OUR MOUTH TO THEIR EARS
Many moms with little children are amazed at how the little buggers suddenly lose their hearing and/or memories when it comes to chores. They do one and forget the other. They say "okay" and then get distracted with play. We have discovered an effective way to cure their hearing and memories. Write down a list of chores. Funny thing is, most kids actually love to cross stuff off the list. And who can argue with a written record? Moms, try it. It works. Please note: you'll have to teach them how to read.

3. MULTIPLIER EFFECT
Did you know that when you pray with another person or a group of people, you merit not only the grace of your own prayers, but also the grace of their prayers, too, especially when you pray the Rosary? We learned this in college when we first started praying the Rosary, so we don't know where to look it up. God is a generous God, so it makes sense to us.

4. 23,000 PEOPLE IN PRAYER
So let's just pray in general for each other. We'll keep it simple. "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen."

5. MY SONS THE LAWYERS
We think we all saw how important the law is during the presidential fracus. If we have sons, and if they have the talent and desire, we might encourage them to become lawyers, judges, politicians (and perhaps for a handful to become movie stars to pay for the tuition and campaigns). Where would they attend law school? At Tom Monaghan's brand-new Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, which is off to a spectacular first year, packed to the gills with good Catholics who want to be great lawyers. The faculty is top notch. We had the honor of meeting many of the advisors last year during a trip to Ann Arbor–many of the best legal minds in the country. For more info, visit them here, and tell them CatholiCity sent you:

See you soon (we hope). Just remember one thing...uh, we forget what it was.

Yours in Christ,

Tu Amigos de la CatholiCity
