The CatholiCity Message

Volume XIII, Number 4 – July 1, 2009

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

Where does the time go? (It does not go anywhere, the philosophy student of Aristotle answers--we move forward towards Eternity.)

We have a little bit of this and that for you this month, including a joke, a prayer, some quotes from Saints you have never read before, and info about an organization which offers free (or ridiculously low cost) high-quality Catholic DVDs, CDs, and powerpoint downloads on marriage and family life. Let's get started...

1. GOOD CATHOLIC STUFF FOR NEXT TO NUFFIN'
Who can afford to give away CDs or DVDs at their parish or Church groups at $10 and $20 a pop? Answer: virtually nobody. Other than the Mary Foundation, where can you get superior, riveting, effective, and top-quality Catholic "tools for evangelization" for nominal donations, if not free of charge? Here is your answer:

The Gift Foundation
http://www.giftfoundation.org

We do not have the time and space to do justice to the many excellent resources available from the Gift Foundation, but here is a short sample:

1. 10 CD Seminar on the Theology of the Body by Christopher West for only $4.90. (That's $4.90, NOT $49.00!)

2. $1 CDs or FREE online video on the Ovulation Method.

3. A powerful presentation on the science, theology, and morality of "Planning Your Family God's Way," as a free online audio, or $1 per CD for evangelizing others.

And much more. As always, and we can't emphasize this more, our appeal is for your desire to help change people's lives and the salvation of souls. You love souls. Go for it.

2. QUOTES ON TRUTH AND FAITH

"Men must have facts first and the explanations afterwards."
Fr. Robert Benson

"For faith in the beginning and end is love, and God is the two of them brought in unity. After these comes whatever else makes up a Christian gentleman."
St. Ignatius of Antioch

"Faith is a habit of mind, which begins eternal life in us, and induces a reasonable assent to things unseen."
St. Thomas Aquinas

"By faith the Christian souls enters, as it were, into marriage with God."
St. Thomas Aquinas

"A faint faith is better than a strong heresy."
St. Thomas More

"Faith is illuminative, not operative. It does not force obedience, though it increases responsibility. It heightens guilt--it does not prevent sin."
Cardinal Newman

"We cannot deny that believing and knowing are different things, and that in matters of great importance, pertaining to divinity, we must first believe before we seek to know."
St. Augustine

3. GOD AND THE DARWINIST

One day a group of Darwinian scientists got together and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one Darwinist named Charles to go and tell Him that they were done with Him. Charles walked up to God and said, "God, we've decided that we no longer need you. We're to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things through science, so why don't you just get lost." God listened very patiently to Charles, and replied with a suggestion, "Very well, how about this? Let's have a man-making contest. But to be fair, we both have to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam."  To which Charles happily agreed, "Sure, no problem," and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of clay. God looked at him and said, "No, no, no. First, create your own clay."

4. SAY A PRAYER WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS
We are going to change the world, by a little or a lot, by praying this simple prayer together, tens of thousands of us...

"Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."
