Armed Resistance
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Simplified
Conditions for Armed Resistance to Oppression (2243)
Even when public authority oppresses them, citizens should still do what is required by the common good. However, they can defend their own and others' rights within the limits of the natural law and the Gospel.
Armed resistance to political oppression is legitimate only if the following conditions are met:
- There is a certain, grave, and prolonged violation of fundamental rights
- All other means have been exhausted
- This resistance will not provoke worse disorders
- There is a well-founded hope for success
- No better solution is reasonably possible
